Way to go, Dae Jang Geum

Mention "Dae Jang Geum" anywhere in Singapore (and Korea) and you'll strike a chord with almost anyone.
The serial is dunno how many weeks in the run and the following has not seen any decrease. A personal confession - I'm a "Dae Jang Geum" fan!
Not only does "Dae Jang Geum" give its viewers a detailed lesson in culinary skills and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), it is also a must watch for those who wants to excel in "office politics" (In "Jang Geum"s case, "palace politics"). And to top it all, the script writer made sure there is emotional buildup and release in every single episode!
As a Christian, I find much encourgaement from the story too when I see how the main actress endured hardship and persisted in what is right. This is the ingredient for success in life. You and I may have great gifts and talents that come from the Lord. But it is the persistance (to do good) in the grinding of everyday life that polishes us and makes us shine for Jesus. Otherwise, we'll just be an unimpressive dull gem.

Jesus, My Brother!
Do you know Jesus said this, "
Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."
What a great privilege to have Jesus Christ as my brother! I'm a king's brother!
But here goes the catch... Jesus calls us his brother or sister or mother only if we do the will of God. Considering the privilege, I want to do the will of God! God help me!

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

=)
When Ps Kuo Yung shared with us, first during one of the LTC sessions, and then today, that KPC Youth could and would grow to a stunning 400-strong congregation, I honestly didn't know what to make of it. Till now I still can't imagine it actually happening, because, well, looking at us in our present state, I don't think
anyone can be absolutely free of skepticism. So many questions, doubts, fears.
But remember God's response to Moses' questioning: "I am the Lord." (Exodus 5:2). I feel this simple 4-word statement is enough to cover everything. God doesn't even need us to do this, so who cares about how lousy we are? God also says, "I will be with you." (Exodus 3:12a). What more assurance do we need? Like Moses, we give all sorts of excuses and harbour all sorts of insecurities. Like Moses, all we have to do is obey His call. And the rest will be taken care of by the One who never fails.
Impossible? Totally. That's why God's doing it.
MI:4

Know what's MI:4 ?
It's an impossible mission. Do you believe our youth ministry will grow in 4 years, from 40 youths to 400 youths?
That must the wierdest thing a pastor will ever come up with, you might say.
But God has put this impression in my heart from the first few weeks of my arriving in KPC. I've kept it in my heart till now - because I fear its just my own thoughts. But this vision just grow stronger by the day.
I share it with you so that you may pray along with me. If this thought is truely from the Lord, I believe when you pray, he will impress it in your hearts too. And if it is true, come forward to share with me or with other youths. Ask them to pray too!
Grow from 40 to 400? That itself is a tall order. And with a time line of 4 years - it begins to sound absurd (or impossible).
Jesus once taught Peter an important lesson. He said, "
With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Thanks be to God, if a vision comes from Him, no matter how impossible it is, it will come to pass. Because it is not man who shall achieve, but it is God who WILL. Our job is to believe, our job is the take one small step of faith in obeying Him, our job is to give all glory to God.
Dear brothers and sisters, I implore of you, pray with me....

This Man (now playing...)
In only a moment truth was seen
Revealed this mystery
The crown that showed no dignity he wore
And the king was placed for all the world to show disgrace
But only beauty flowed from this place
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
He held the weight of impurity
The Father would not see
The reasons had finally come to be to show
The depth of His grace flowed with every sin erased
He knew that this was why he came
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
And we just don't know
The blood and water flowed
And in it all He showed
Just how much He cared
And the veil was torn
So we could have this open door
And all these things have finally been complete
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands,
from his hands, from his hands, from his hands...

Lord how can I sing this song to You?
Heaven knows I’m so unworthy.
Keep taking You for granted cause I know You’re faithful,
Cause I know You’re always there for me.
Your great love covers everything oh God,
My cares, my doubts, my fears.
Through the laughter and pain, through the sunshine and rain,
Even when I don’t feel You near.
Time after time I pushed You aside.
Lord I often wonder why
You still take me back; You’re still there to catch
Every single tear that I cry.
So these words can’t stay off of my lips,
And this song won’t be kept in my heart.
As You give us the inspiration,
Lord let the praises start.
What would I do without You?
Where else can I go?
You are the reason I’m living
You are my only hope

Reboot your computer daily
I was reminded of the importance of having a personal silent time with the Lord daily when I looked at my computer today.
It's common knowledge that when a computer runs continuously for a long time without shutting down, it risks slowing down and even hanging on the user! So it is a good practice to shut down and restart your computer regularly.
I see my quiet time with the Lord as a spiritual reset button. During my quiet time, I like to read a few chapters of scripture, read a devotional material (e.g. Daily Bread), reflect on what I've read and on the things that have gone by and is to come, write a simple thought in my journal, and end with prayer. When I open my eyes at the end of my prayer, I felt like I've been renewed for the new day! All my "old anxieties" have been downloaded and packed away!
I wish for you a great daily time with our Lord too.

Election's Over ?
On the topic of election, i.e. God choosing His own people, Paul raised the question,
“What then shall we say? Is God unjust?” to which he proceeded to answer himself,
“Not at all! For He says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’ It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy.” (read Romans 9:14-16)
Is God unjust? No! He is just and He demands that every sin be paid for. If God is really unjust, then there’ll be no need for Jesus Christ and He can just “waive” away any punishments for our sins. But because God is just, he sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross so that for us who are in Christ, Jesus will take on the punishment for our sins – so that the justice of God will be fully met.
Salvation, therefore, depends not on God’s
justice. But salvation depends on God’s
mercy. And mercy is a gift of God. No one (not you nor I) can tell God to whom He should give this gift. The only reasonable way to go about is for the gift owner himself to decide.

20 Big Lies in the DaVinci Code
The novel DaVinci Code is a fictional story but the author made it looked as if it is grounded on historical facts. As a result, some Christians got stumbled.
But the truth is, the author has got many of the historical facts WRONG. If you like a listing of the historical problems of his book, follow this link:

Bak Chor Mee podcast
OK, OK, we're trying to be apolitical here. But
this is too funny to miss (especially the podcast)...
Suicide: Is it that bad?
Hi, saw this posting on Ps Wesley (Glory PC) blog. Find it interesting. So brought it over to see if you guys have any comments:"On average, at least one Singaporean commits suicide a day. Another 14 tries but fails. But while the number of suicide cases has remained stable in the last five years, there's been a shift in the age demographics. Suicide rates among young Singaporeans have been on the rise, while elderly suicide rates have dramtically dipped in the last four years.
Suicides usually come as a surprise to their family and friends. But studies have shown that most of the time, the person had actually expressed a wish to commit suicide before.
A person who is likely to commit suidide often feels desperate, hopeless and helpless. he or she may seem usually upset or withdrawn. He is often depressed and looks upon suicide as a solution to all his problems.
Suicide is a permanent loss in response to a temporary problem. It hurts those who love us the most. It has secondary consequences. It is a irresponsible behaviour. "

Go Ask Pastor!
You know lah, the world will always attack Christianity. And once in a while we'll have doubts and questions too. It's bad to keep them inside, you know? Really, if you've got any questions at all - big or small, simply call, sms (93891474) or email (
kuoyung@kpchurch.org.sg) me.
If you want to read some questions I've answered, just click on the "Ask Pastor" label below!PS: If you really want to remain anonymous, simply apply for an email account with a funny name (e.g.
mickeymouse@funnyname.com) and then email me with it! (I'll take eternity to guess who you are...)
Labels: Ask Pastor
The Departure.
Yes, today is Pastor Tim See's official I-am-stepping-down-from-KPC's-office day. (I hope I got the facts right) and we had a lunch at
HAPPY RESTAURANT to send him off.
The food was nice and the company was great; though we're sad to see Pastor See go (we'll definitely miss his messages, jokes and his whispering "amen!") we know that He's in God's hands and is moving on further to serve God's purpose.
May the peace of the Lord be with Him, now and always. -whispers- Amen!
In Me (now playing)
By Casting CrownsIf you asked me to leap
Out of my boat on the crashing waves
If you ask me to go
Preach to a lost world of Jesus saves
I'll go, but I cannot go alone
'Cause I know I'm nothing on my own
But the power of Christ in me makes me strong
Makes me strong
'Cause when I'm weak, You make me strong
When I'm blind You shine Your light on me
'Cause I'll never get by living on my own ability
How refreshing to know You don't need me
How amazing to find that You want me
So I'll stand on Your Truth, and I'll fight with Your Strength
Untill You bring the victory, by the power of Christ in me
If You ask me to run
And carry Your light into foreign land
If You ask me to fight
Deliver Your people from satan's hand
I'll go, but I cannot go alone
'Cause I know I'm nothing on my own
But the power of Christ in me makes me strong
Makes me strong
'Cause when I'm weak, You make me strong
When I'm blind you shine Your light on me
'Cause I'll never get by living on my own ability
How refreshing to know You don't need me
How amazing to find that You want me
So I'll stand on Your Truth, and I'll fight with Your Strength
Untill You bring the victory, by the power of Christ in me
To reach out with Your hands
To learn through Your eyes
To love with the love of a Savior
To feel with Your heartand to think with Your mind
I'd give my last breath for Your glory
'Cause when I'm weak, You make me strong
When I'm blind you shine Your light on me
'Cause I'll never get by living on my own ability
How refreshing to know You don't need me
How amazing to find that You want me
So I'll stand on Your Truth, and I'll fight with Your Strength
Untill You bring the victory, by the power of Christ in me

Too Comfortable In Our Bondage
The toughest thing you will face when mentoring / discipling another person is that the person you try to help refuses vehemently to change - to change for the better. When you start to represent God's voice in his life, he will start to avoid you, resist you, and sometimes even attack you. All these he will do, unknowingly. This will cause you great heartache.
But take heart that the Bible has already given us such examples:
After the Isrealites slaved for Egypt for 400 years, Moses spoke up to the Pharaoh to request their freedom. As a result, Pharaoh treated the Isrealites in a harsher manner. Instead of looking forward to freedom, they turned around to accuse Moses for being a trouble making.
They said to him, "May the LORD look upon you and judge you! You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us."
The Isrealites were angry with Moses for disrupting their life of slavery!
Ask yourself these questions: Have you been lulled into a comfortable relationship with your bondage? Do you fear change more than you fear God? Are you willing to allow God to do what is necessary in order to free you? Will you cooperate with your mentor to bring about a better you ?

Bro (Sis), you gotta have FAITH
When the disciples failed to drive out a demon, they asked Jesus why. Jesus answered,
"Because you have so little faith... if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."As a pastor, I was often times discouraged by Christians who are still unwilling or unable to surrender to Jesus. I asked God, "Lord, when will your children learn to love you, worship you and serve you? They seemed so caught up with themselves, so bent on doing their own things... I still dreamt that one day, we will become a people shining brightly for you in Singapore! Nothing I can do will make a difference..."
To that, Jesus gave me the same answer as He gave Peter while walking on water,
"You of little faith. Why did you doubt?" Indeed, I should doubt
my own abilities. But why should I doubt
God's abilities? Isn't He able to achieve for Himself all that would please Him? Isn't His children more precious to Him than any gold or silver put together on earth?
O, me of little faith. I would wise up and continue to be God's faithful co-laborer. Though I'm weak, He shall show me His own might by raising for Himself a new generation of spiritual warriors!

EXAM STRESS!!!
Yeah, what a first post for me!
Anyway, let's just remind ourselves that in the midst of all our
studying and mugging whatsoever, let's not forget
God in our midst! Of course we all know that He's always here, guiding us through, but I guess a gentle reminder would, well, help us
remember not to forget, won't it? =)
Well, in the mean time,
glorify God through your studies. Work hard and you'll reap what you sow! =D If you need a break, go read the Bible or something. Sing some praises. Say a prayer. Talk to God.
Afterall, He
is our friend, isn't He? ^^
Pool, Anyone?

Played pool with my wife just now. Fun.
I played billard with some friends now and then at East Coast during VJC days. After leaving JC, I stopped for lack of opportunity.
Until recently, I saw Shaun with his personal pool cue. After some digging here and there, he introduced me to a very cheap pool centre at Marine Parade and he gave me an elementary verbal lesson on playing pool.
So off I went with my wife to play some pool! I thought it is a great activity for people to relax together with lots of interaction. We joked and chit chatted throughout the play - most of the time about the silly ways we played. I think this activity helped us enjoyed each other more. Furthermore, I get to win most of the time because I think she didn't concentrate on her game!
Anyone game to challenge me? I think its pretty simple to trash me! (But you need to be above 16 year-old, boy.)
