"Now faithis being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
-Hebrews 11:1,6
THE STORY THAT CHANGES LIVES:
1: GOD LOVES YOU AND WANTS YOU TO KNOW HIM
HOW CAN YOU KNOW GOD LOVES YOU? 'God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.' John 3:16
WHAT IS ETERNAL LIFE? 'Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.' John 17:3
Why is it that most people do not know God in this way?...
2: WE CHOOSE TO GO OUR OWN WAY, CUTTING OURSELVES OFF FROM GOD
WE ARE EACH RESPONSIBLE We prefer to go our own way instead of God's; we may openly disobey God who made us, or simply ignore him. It's this self-centred attitude that the Bible calls 'sin'.
WE ARE ALL THE SAME 'All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.' Romans 3:23
WE EACH SUFFER THE EFFECTS 'That way of living leads to certain spiritual death.' Romans 8:13
God is perfect, we are sinful, so there is a great gap between us. We may try to feel better through work, relationships, sport or religion. But all our attempts fail, because we have ignored the real problem - turning our back on God.
The third point gives us the only answer to this problem...
3: BY GIVING HIS LIFE FOR US, JESUS CHRIST OPENED UP THE ONLY WAY TO FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD
JESUS IS UNIQUE 'I am the way, the truth and the life!' Jesus answered. 'Without me no-one can go to the Father.' John 14:6
JESUS HAS THE POWER TO PUT THINGS RIGHT 'While we were his enemies, Christ reconciled us to God by dying for us.' Colossians 1:21,22
JESUS HAS POWER OVER DEATH 'For forty days after Jesus has suffered and died, he proved in many ways that he had been raised from death. He appeared to his apostles and spoke to them about God's kingdom.' Acts 1:3
Jesus took the consequences of our self-centredness by giving up his life on the cross. He proved he had broken sin's destructive power by rising from the dead. Jesus offers us freedom from guilt and a bridge back to God.
It's not enough just to know all this...
4: WE NEED TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST, SO WE CAN KNOW GOD'S FORGIVENESS AND FRIENDSHIP
WE NEED TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST 'Some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be children of God' John 1:12
ACCEPTING JESUS CHRIST INVOLVES 1 Agreeing with God that we are to blame for turning our back on him 2 Trusting God to forgive us completely because Jesus has paid the price for our self-centredness 3 Choosing to follow Jesus
JESUS GIVES THIS PICTURE 'Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together.' Revelation 3:20
It's not enough just to know or feel that these things are true. We have a choice to make...
These illustrations describe two kinds of people
Self-centred person
Self in the driving seat.
Jesus Christ outside.
Interests centred on self, often resulting in discord and frustration.
Christ-centred person
Jesus Christ in the driving seat.
Self following Jesus Christ, drawing on his life and power.
Interests centred on Christ, resulting in growing harmony with God's purpose.
Which illustration better describes you? Which illustration would you like to describe you?
TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST, YOU MUST PUT YOUR LIFE IN HIS HANDS. GOD IS NOT SO CONCERNED WITH YOUR WORDS AS HE IS WITH YOUR ATTITUDE. HERE IS SOMETHING YOU COULD SAY TO HIM:
'Lord Jesus, I am sorry that I have been going my own way. Thank you for paying the price of my self-centredness by dying on the cross. Please come and take first place in my life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.'
COULD YOU SAY THIS TO GOD AND MEAN IT?
Why not say this to God now? Jesus Christ will come into your life as he promised

Does God exist? The following offers honest, straight-forward reasons to believe in God...
By Marilyn Adamson
Just once wouldn't you love for someone to simply show you the evidence for God's existence? No arm-twisting. No statements of, "You just have to believe." Well, here is an attempt to offer some of the reasons which suggest that God exists.
But first consider this. If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalised or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.
When it comes to the possibility of God's existence, the Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God. On the other hand, for those who want to know God if he is there, he says, "You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you." Before you look at the facts surrounding God's existence, ask yourself, If God does exist, would I want to know him? Here then, are some reasons to consider...
1. Does God exist? The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today.
2. Does God exist? The human brain's complexity shows a higher intelligence behind it.
3. Does God exist? "Chance" or "natural causes" are insufficient explanations.
4. Does God exist? To state with certainty that there is no God, a person has to ignore the passion of an enormously vast number of people who are convinced that there is a God.
5. Does God exist? We know God exists because he pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him.
6. Does God exist? Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God pursuing us.
Who is Jesus? A quick summary on the life of Jesus Christ - and reasons to believe in him...
By Paul E. Little
It is impossible for us to know conclusively whether God exists and what He is like unless He takes the initiative and reveals Himself. We must know what He is like and His attitude toward us. Suppose we knew He existed, but that He was like Adolf Hitler--capricious, vicious, prejudiced, and cruel. What a horrible realisation that would be!
We must scan the horizon of history to see if there is any clue to God's revelation. There is one clear clue. In an obscure village in Palestine, almost 2,000 years ago, a Child was born in a stable. Today the entire world is still celebrating the birth of Jesus.
He lived in obscurity until He was thirty, and then began a public ministry that lasted three years. It was destined to change the course of history. He was a kindly person and we're told that "the common people heard Him gladly." And, "He taught as One who had authority, and not as their teachers of the Law" (Matthew 7:29).
It soon became apparent, however, that He was making shocking and startling statements about Himself. He began to identify Himself as far more than a remarkable teacher or prophet. He began to say clearly that He was God. ...
Jesus Christ - the Son of God?
As we face the claims of Christ, there are only four possibilities. He was either a liar, a lunatic, a legend, or the Truth. If we say He is not the Truth, we are automatically affirming one of the other three alternatives, whether we realise it or not.
(1) One possibility is that Jesus lied when He said He was God--that He knew He was not God, but deliberately deceived His hearers to lend authority to His teaching. Few, if any, seriously hold this position. Even those who deny His deity affirm that He was a great moral teacher. They fail to realise those two statements are a contradiction. Jesus could hardly be a great moral teacher if, on the most crucial point of His teaching--His identity--He was a deliberate liar.
(2) A kinder, though no less shocking possibility, is that He was sincere but self-deceived. We have a name for a person today who thinks he is God. That name is lunatic, and it certainly would apply to Christ if He were deceived on this all-important issue. But as we look at the life of Christ, we see no evidence of the abnormality and imbalance we find in a deranged person. Rather, we find the greatest composure under pressure.
(3) The third alternative is that all of the talk about His claiming to be God is a legend--that what actually happened was that His enthusiastic followers, in the third and fourth centuries, put words into His mouth He would have been shocked to hear. Were He to return, He would immediately repudiate them.
The legend theory has been significantly refuted by many discoveries of modern archaeology. These have conclusively shown that the four biographies of Christ were written within the lifetime of contemporaries of Christ. Some time ago Dr. William F. Albright, world-famous archaeologist now retired from Johns Hopkins University, said that there was no reason to believe that any of the Gospels were written later than A.D. 70. For a mere legend about Christ, in the form of the Gospel, to have gained the circulation and to have had the impact it had, without one shred of basis in fact, is incredible.
For this to have happened would be as fantastic as for someone in our own time to write a biography of the late John F. Kennedy and in it say he claimed to be God, to forgive people's sins, and to have risen from the dead. Such a story is so wild it would never get off the ground because there are still too many people around who knew Kennedy. The legend theory does not hold water in the light of the early date of the Gospel manuscripts.
(4) The only other alternative is that Jesus spoke the truth. From one point of view, however, claims don't mean much. Talk is cheap. Anyone can make claims. ...
Evidence from the Life of Jesus
First, His moral character coincided with His claims.
Second, Christ demonstrated a power over natural forces which could belong only to God, the Maker of these forces.
Third, Jesus demonstrated the Creator's power over sickness and disease.
Fourth, Jesus' supreme credential to authenticate His claim to deity was His resurrection from the dead.
Why do I need God to be happy? "I have found happiness in my life. Why do I need to derive a sense of purpose and happiness from the concept of a 'divine being'?"

Ben Goh:
I grew up in a Christian family so the Gospel was not new to me. I attended Sunday School from young. So I knew all the stories like Noah's Ark and Adam and Eve. However at that point of time God was just some powerful guy up there to me.
It was only when I attended the Youth Leadership Training Camp in church that God really spoke to me. I remembered how I was just listening to the message in which there was a challenge. The Holy Spirit just melted my heart and I could just hear God speak to me. That was when I first realize how close a relationship I could have with God.
However of course there were sufferings, it was definitely difficult to maintain a Godly character in school and outside church. However God's hand has been slowly moulding me and as I looked back I was truly amazed at how God has made me into a better person. I now have a purpose in my life! To Glorify him in everything I do, to appreciate the many blessings he has showered on me like a loving family and incredible friends. All this in anticipation that little by little he will reveal his perfect will installed for my life.
Indeed I am so grateful for the people who have helped me with my walk with Christ – from my wonderful parents to my knowledgeable Grandmother and all the way to my pastors and all my fellow kias who have truly been a blessing to me! So as I open a new chapter in my life after the O-levels, I am extremely honoured to begin it by being confirmed as a Christian, to continue to enjoy and cherish my walk with God forever.
--------------------------------------------
Joel:
Being born into a Christian family, I knew all about God, Jesus and the common biblical stories. But I never knew God personally. My mother would read me stories about God. At the age of 8 or 9, I accepted God into my life. However, my life was still not dedicated to Him yet. I could barely feel His presence. The only reason for me to keep remembering Him was my family. Whenever trouble arose within or outside my family, I would pray to God for a miracle.
Most of the time, He would answer my little cries for help. But when he didn’t, I would just think that He was already planning or had already planned my next part in life. To me, life itself is a miracle. Everything was planned by God and not by fate or chance. Eventually when things seemed bad, I would remember that things always turn out good, exactly the way God would’ve wanted it to be. Even if I cannot see it for a few years, always remembering that God is there helps me through the difficult times.
I may not be able to see God directly, but I can see His works in my life. Everything that He has done for me has an impact on making me who I am today. God gave me an outgoing brother to strengthen me up and make me more “manly-like”, a sister who cares for me, a father to look up to and a mother who shares with me her faith.
My reason for deciding to be confirmed? I just want to see myself continue to grow the way God wants me to. But the reason I choose to be confirmed now is that I want to rededicate my life once again to Him.

Marianne Hui:
Growing up in a Christian home, I’ve always known who Jesus is. I found it easy to believe in God because I was happy as a child, I loved going to church, and I was loved by those around me. But when I was 10, I remembered some people giving a presentation at Sunday school and when the leader prayed at the end, I broke down, overwhelmed by his grace and love. And that very day, in my heart, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour.
6 years have passed now, and it is my desire to continue seeking the Lord and delighting in his presence. There was a period of time when I was filled with doubts about God, and the emptiness and turmoil within was unbearable. As I called up to God in desperation, He once again filled me with His peace.
I can’t imagine living this life without God leading the way. So I have given my life to Him, trusting in His perfect plan for me, letting Him use me for His glory.
---------------------------------------------
Melissa:
I was born into a Christian family, thus I grew up going to Sunday School and was taught about the Christian faith and what it meant to be a Christian. As with all children, I accepted what was told to me and believed it to be true. The faith I had was merely the faith that other children had that fairytales were true, and no more than that. I grew up with that kind of faith, and throughout the years of Sunday School I was able to give “model answers” and “correct answers” to Biblical questions.
But as I entered my teen years at the age of thirteen in the year 2004, I started to question the faith I had grown up to believe in. I began to have questions and sought a deeper understanding of the Christian faith, while also praying about the questions I had. I continued going to church regularly, mostly out of duty rather than a passion to hear God’s Word. I felt that I never seemed to receive answers to my questions, so I stopped praying about those questions I had.
In June 2005, I decided to attend my annual school camp organised by the church affiliated to my school, All Saints’ Church. During the last worship service of the camp, I truly felt touched by God as I prayed and worshipped Him, and in that moment, all my questions were answered with this assurance from God through His presence, which nearly felt tangible. For the first time, the Bible knowledge I had known since young seemed so real and I was left in awe of God’s love. As I left the camp that day, I knew my life had changed in a major way and for the better.
Since that incident, my life has changed, by knowing God, loving and trusting in Him. I have faced many challenges since then, especially in my role as a student. My faith has been tested many times, through peers, as well as situations where I had only God to depend on. I am, among countless others, a testament to God’s love, grace and strength.

If there is no God
"If there is no God, then everything you are, everything you know, everything and everyone you've ever cared for, does not matter. It means nothing.
The fact that you are happy or unhappy with your life doesn't mean anything. The fact that you're pretty or ugly means nothing. The fact that you're smart or stupid, doesn't mean a thing.
Everyone who's ever cared for you, they mean nothing, and the love they have for you means absolutely nothing.
If there is no God, you have no purpose. You are far worse than an accident or a mistake, you're not even acknowledged. You have no meaning, no calling, no use. Not only that, but there is no such thing as a mistake. There's no such thing as meaning, or callings, or being of use for anything.
The fact that there are people dying everday from AIDS or violence or starvation does not mean anything. The fact that you care about those issues means absolutely nothing.
I can hear the retorts already: "It means something now." But no, it doesn't. Because meaning itself is meaningless. When those people have died and gone, they aren't going to mean anything. Their existence will have accomplished nothing. Anything we consider accomplishment is just an illusion. Even considering anything is meaningless.
Your life is pointless. Meaningless. Useless. You can help people, but help isn't even real. You can love people and be loved back. But love isn't even real. You can exist. But it doesn't matter. Existence doesn't even know you exist.
It doesn't even know that it itself exists. In fact, it could never know it exists. And that doesn't even matter.
Every good deed you've done does not matter. It is meaningless. If there is no God, good and evil do not exist. They are just made-up concepts that do not matter.
So why are you fighting for what you believe in? What does it matter? Who cares if it matters now? If you say that YOU care, well, that doesn't even matter. When your dead and gone, you won't remember your legacy, because you won't exist anymore. People might, but what does that matter after they die and the Earth dies?
The Universe will not care what you think you did that was important. Nothing is important. The Universe does not care. Not only does it not care, but it doesn't even not NOT care. Caring isn't real. Caring is a made-up concept, concocted by evolved upright monkeys, as a device to fool the species into reproducing and protecting itself.
But why? If there is no God, why would that matter? Why would we have the desire to exist and to multiply? Why would survival of the fittest even exist? Who cares if we live or die? Who cares if a species is extinct? You might think you do, but in reality, you do not.
If there is no God, the question of His existence would not be important. People wouldn't ask. No one would care. It wouldn't matter.
What you are going through right now, yes YOU, means nothing. The fact that you're hurting. The fact that you're happy. The fact that you're in love, or have the best friends in the world. These things are meaningless. Less than meaningless. Because meaning itself is a made up concept. It doesn't even exist outside of the human mind. The fact that you're a nice person, the fact that you are loyal and honest, has no value. Value itself does not exist.
Your accomplishments do not matter. The work you do to become a better person is pointless. The outcome is meaningless. Everything you've ever felt, your love, your passions, your desires, your heartaches and happiness, is all a chemical reaction that controls us, and none of it matters. Every bad thing you've been through, you went through it for NOTHING. YOU SUFFERED IN VAIN.
Someone gets wrongly convicted of a murder and it does not matter. You break your leg and it does not matter. You get promoted and it means absolutely nothing.
All of human existence could be gone in the blink of an eye, and everything we've worked for, everything we've strived for for millenias, will blink into nonexistence, and will never have mattered. No one will remember. It will have accomplished nothing.
The quest for knowledge means nothing. Spending your life learning does nothing. Going to school is pointless. So you leave behind information for the next generation. So what? Just so they can know it, then die, then never have mattered, even to themselves? Your accomplishment means nothing.
Making good decisions means nothing. Because the outcome of good decisions mean nothing.
Everything you do, everything you say, every breath you take, means nothing.
Are you getting this? Do you hear this? Is it sinking in?
Some might say that they've come to terms with this. And so they lead a life of self-indulgence and self-absorbtion. They'll say, who cares if they're selfish? But people do care. But why? If there is no God, why would it matter if someone led a selfish life? Why would people even care if they were hurt by it? Why would it even be selfish to be selfish? Selfishness doesn't even exist. It means nothing.
If you popped into existence by mere chance, you mean nothing. You may as well die, now, because it doesn't even matter if you live. It doesn't even matter if you die. And frankly, it doesn't even matter if you choose one or the other, or don't choose at all.
Depressing, isn't it? Some might say a belief in God exists to avoid this supposed truth. But then why is it so in our nature to want meaning and purpose, to seek it out and base our lives around this quest if we were just a chance occurrence? So that we'll survive and our species can continue?
But if we are all truly by chance, then why would that even matter? What would be the purpose, the need to survive? Why would it matter if we did or did not? And why should we care?
And how could we even say this is the truth, because if there is no God, truth does not exist.
I say it is part of our nature to care, love, and feel driven for a reason. And in a world uncreated, there can be no such thing as reason.
However...
If there is a God, you are here for a reason. Your very life happened for a reason. You were not a mistake, you were not by chance. You were carefully crafted and lovingly thought of. You have a calling on your life to make a difference, because it DOES matter.
If there is a God, you are special. All the feelings you feel matter. All the love you have in your life, matters. Your best friend matters. Your mom matters. Your crush, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your husband or wife, they matter. Your dreams, desires, aspirations matter. What you fight for, it matters. Your job matters. Your emotions matter.
The question of God's existence, matters.
You are where you are in your life for a reason. There is a purpose for your pain, your happiness, your troubles, shortcomings, joys and triumphs. You learn lessons for a reason. You go through hard times for a reason. You feel touched looking at a beautiful sunset for a reason. You have passions and talents for a reason. You belong. You are no accident. You have meaning.
If there is a God.
If we were not created, then everything means nothing. If we were created, everything means something.
I don't know many nonbelievers that can still say confidently that God does not exist after thinking about these things."
I was doing my QT a couple of days ago using the Daily Bread, and something made me think. This is from the Sep 9 date, yeah, I'm using the one for next month because I don't know where's the one for this month.
The author, David Roper writes (At least, I think he's the author):
"Whenever we enter frightening circumstances or face furious assaults, we can say with confidence, "Lord, I'll go anywhere with You."
I felt that this was different because most of the time it is said that God would go with us wherever we go, but it's opposite this time, and this should be h ow it's supposed to be like. God is leading me in y life, and I'm supposed to follow. Whom am I, that God should follow me? I think this really puts things back into perspective and it's a reminder that our lives are not our own. We really are very tiny in comparison to everything about God.
It's not much compared to the real videos taken using real video cameras of real people who witnessed the real thing, but it's just a little something I'd like to share with the rest of you. =)
I was really disillusioned with famous Atheist writer Richard Dawkins after doing a simple examination of his claims in the book "The God Delusion". I have seen video clips of him making speeches online and I thought he was definitely an objective person and a responsible writer from the way he carried himself.
But he showed himself not to be through his words. I reproduced 2 segments of his writings for you to check for yourself.
Exhibit 1:
Dawkins alleged that Jesus was not born in Bethlehem. And he quoted Gospel of John (7:42) as claiming that even Jesus' followers don't think Jesus was born in Bethlehem. (See underlined above). Read the Bible passage yourself. It was the Jews at the feast (who did not know his background) who said those words - not his followers!
Exhibit 2:
Dawkins then said that the Gospel of Matthew indicated that Mary and Joseph stayed in Bethlehem all along. Go read the Gospel of Matthew yourself. When was that said? Never!
If you read the 2 accounts of Jesus' birth in Gospel of Matthew and Gospel of Luke, you will instead get the impression that Joseph and Mary was originally in Nazareth, then they went to Bethlehem when Mary was pregnant, then they stayed on in Bethlehem for some time - even a number of years - after Jesus' birth (unlike "The Nativity" movie which showed them escaping the very night of the birth), then they escaped to Egypt, then finally they returned to Nazareth.
After this encounter with Richard Dawkins, I'm not sure if I have lost hope in the objectivity of famous atheist writers. I sincerely believed that Dawkin was responsible in the way he read Scripture. He proved me wrong.
Now I have to nurse my wounds, and hopefully, one day, my respect for atheists will return to me again.
Look! I found a very intriguing way of explaining the triune nature of God (Father, Son, Spirit), from an online article. Warning: a very long entry with intellectual stuff ahead.
This is arguably the most important doctrine of Christianity—certainly the most distinctive. This does not mean that there are three Gods; there is only one God who created Heaven and Earth and everything in them. The term "God" as used in the Bible most commonly refers to the Father, but the Son and the Holy Spirit are each also recognized as God. This concept is so difficult for many to accept that some have argued that the three divine Persons are not really three distinct individuals but merely three modes in which the one God can express Himself as occasion demands.
But this also is a false invention. There are many accounts of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit speaking to each other, for example. The doctrine of the Trinity is admittedly difficult (in fact impossible) to comprehend fully with our minds, but it is taught so definitely in God's Word that we believe it with our hearts.
Skeptics can deride the Trinity doctrine as mathematically impossible. One plus One plus One does not equal One, but three. Nevertheless, the Bible reveals God to be a Trinity—one God in three Persons. Are we naïve and credulous to believe such a thing?
Well, not really. It is also a remarkable fact that the divine Trinity, the tri-une God, has created a great universe which is itself a trinity, with each of its three components also structured as trinities. This would not necessarily prove that God is a Trinity, but it is a fact that needs explanation. Could God have created it as a model (or type, or analogy) that would help people understand His own Nature, at least in some degree?
Consider: The created universe is actually a tri-universe of Space, Matter, and Time, each permeating and representing the whole. However, the universe is not partly composed of space, partly of matter, and partly of time (like, for example, the three sides of a triangle). A trinity is not a trio or a triad, but a tri-unity, with each part comprising the whole, yet all three required to make the whole. Thus, the universe is all Space, all Time, and all Matter (including energy as a form of matter); in fact, many scientists speak of it as a Space-Matter-Time continuum.
Furthermore, note the parallels between the divine trinity and the tri-universe in terms of the logical order of its three components. Space is the invisible, omnipresent background of everything in the universe. Matter-and-Energy reveal the reality of the universe. Time makes the universe understandable in the events occurring in it. Note that exactly the same sentence will apply if the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit replace the words, Space, Matter, and Time.
Space itself is also a tri-unity, comprised of three dimensions, with each dimension permeating all space. The reality of any portion of space is obtained by multiplying the three dimensions together (the "mathematics of the Trinity" is not 1+1+1=1, but rather 1x1x1=1). Further, Space is identified in the first dimension seen in the second dimension, experienced in the third dimension. The same sentence could be used with Father, Son, and Spirit replacing first, second, and third dimensions.
Similarly, Time is future, present, and past. The future is the unseen source of time, manifest moment-by-moment in the present and understood in the past. Again substitute Father, Son, and Spirit.
Finally, Matter is unseen, omnipresent Energy, manifesting itself in various forms of measurable motion, then experienced in corresponding phenomena. For example, light energy generates light waves, which are experienced in the seeing of light. Sound energy generates sound waves which we experience when we hear sound.
Thus, the physical universe is a great "trinity of trinities," with the inner relationships of each element modeling the relationships of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All of this (as cautioned above) does not prove that God is a Trinity, but it certainly is a remarkable fact. It is an amazing effect, which can at least seemingly be explained on the assumption that God is a tri-une God, and has made His creation to reflect Himself. In fact it is very hard to explain any other way.
Most people's disagreement with Christians is that they don't believe in the existence of God. While it is important and worthwhile to explain to them that there are indeed good reasons to believe in the existence of God, I personally find it very important to point people towards the "miracle" of Jesus Christ.
The reason is this: While there'll never be any way to either prove or disprove the God of the Bible by reasoning, there is a way to get to know Jesus Christ because he is a man who walked in history.
Christians claimed that we have great hope because Jesus Christ our Lord was crucified, dead - but resurrected! If this is not true, Christianity can be thrown into the rubbish dump. Anyone knows that if a man really resurrects from the dead, his words must be taken seriously!
The question is: Did that really happen to Jesus Christ?
The Bible says "YES". But people may think that the Bible is bluffing.
So can we know whetherthe Bible is bluffing or telling the truth?
The answer is "yes" again. Because the death and resurrection of Jesus is purported to be a historical event, the validity of Christians' claim can certainly be ascertained by historical methods.
I challenge you to read books that try to disprove the historicity of Jesus Christ and books that try to prove otherwise. See for yourself who sounds more biased. Go ahead and do it. :)
PS: I'm reading a really good book called "The Case For Christ" by a legally trained journalist who interviews "experts" to try to uncover what really happened 2000 years ago...
Loving each other is one thing to talk about, quite another to practice. A recent incident in our church has prompted me to appeal to all of us to start, if we haven't already, caring for and looking after anyone who needs them, and even to those who don't appear to need them. God does not expect us to shake the world to its foundations, but he requires of us to "love one another". Let's find ways to put this commandment into practice. Christ reigns!
Last night me and a few kias went to the Festival of Praise, which is an annual worship conference at the Indoor Stadium, and it was really great. Don Moen and Delirious? were there, singers who compose a lot of the songs we sing in church today. I personally am a big fan of Delirious?. It's strange, during the time leading up to it I was more looking forward to seeing Delirious? live again, but when it was the actual thing, I didn't really notice them as much as I thought I would. It was all about giving God the honour He deserves, and I'm glad it stayed that way.
When I got home and was having my bath, there was just a feeling and knowledge of being so very blessed, of having received so much grace. One of the songs Delirious? sang, 'Take off my shoes' (lyrics on my blog, 31 July entry), has some lines asking God why He called and waited for someone so guilty and fake, like you and me, and how could someone with all of His fame pull us from darkness and call us by name. It's mind-blowing, and when they sang that song it was one of the most poignant, tear-jerking moments of the night for me.
Of course there was also the usual jaw-dropping displays of musical talent; Shaun Kia was wow-ed by the keyboardist in Don Moen's band during the last song 'God is good', and I still think Delirious?'s Stu G is the best guitarist in the world, bar none. These guys are truly gifted by God, and I'm so thankful to Him for putting such people on earth to inspire us. During the last part of 'Did you feel the mountains tremble', the wives and kids of Delirious? came out to jump around the stage to the words "we're gonna dance in the river". The kids' ages ranged from 2 years old to like preteen, altogether more than ten of them (every band member has at least 2 kids on average, the lead singer Martin Smith has five), and they were so super cute.
I bought 'I Could Sing of Your Love Forever; stories, reflections and devotions', a book written by Martin Smith and Stu G, on how their songs came about and the stories behind them. It's just.. whoa. Can see how God has touched all their lives and fueled their passion. In the book there are glimpses of their lowest, most vulnerable moments, like Martin and his wife losing their unborn child, losing a good friend, and being in a car accident, and how God used these to produce some of their most honest, moving songs. I was awed by the hand of God working through all these ordinary people's lives and realised He could do the same for all of us if only we'd say to Him, "Take my life and lead me on".
